Jainite Silvestre

Guanajuato, México

Jainite Silvestre was born in the state of Tlaxcala in 1991. In 2008 she entered the University of Guanajuato to study visual art with a specialty in linography, lithography and other forms of metal engraving. The workshop where Silvestre currently creates her art supports the production of graphic prints by young Mexican engravers. Silvestre collaborates with other established, recognized graphic art engravers throughout Mexico. She has received many national and international awards and exhibited her work extensively within and outside of Mexico.

Mexicans struggle to remember their ancient origins in today’s world. To keep these symbols alive, elements of the past are often woven into artisans’ work.  Silvestre’s graphic art carries with it her attachment to her ancestral roots where the gods walk with the sun and goddesses flourish near the wet earth.  This weaving of languages, traditions and beliefs is the inspiration for Silvestre’s engravings which are songs to the ancient character of her country.
